Sherwin-Williams Company

Sales and Management intern

June - August 2019 • Springfield Township, PA

What I liked

I loved the company culture. Everyone is so nice and supportive and want to see you succeed so they are always helpful. Also the internship was very organized and I felt like an asset to the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to see more of the sales side of the internship. I did two ride-a-longs with sales reps but I think it would’ve been cool to have more time with the sales reps.

Advice

Be a sponge and absorb as much as you can from everyone you meet. The career paths in this company all vary but everyone has started in the store and they’ve been in your shoes so definitely ask them for advice and network within the company.

Sales/Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Cleveland, OH

What I liked

I liked that I wasn't sitting in a cubicle or a desk all day I was actually out in the stores ringing people out, selling the product, and also learning about managerial functions.

What I wish was different

I wish I could've had a manager throughout the entirety of the internship to consult and go to for help.

Advice

Ask questions, don't be afraid to bug your store staff whenever you need help with selling products in the store or tinting paint.

Sales Management Intern

June - August 2019 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

Working with the city manager as they were very accessible. Learning more about the business on a deeper level. Working on a professional business presentation within a team, while working day to day in store. The pay was better than minimum wage which is good for an internship.

What I wish was different

Getting stuck with a certain store manager who was difficult to work with for the entire ten weeks. The actual training binder the interns go through within the store level is very useless and unnecessary.

Advice

Soak up as much information as you can from the city manager as they know a lot about the business. When working on the internship problem/presentation don't be afraid to think outside the box and make it very unique.

Management/Sales Intern

June - August 2019 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

I like how I was able to get right in to learning about the company and doing what other employees do on a daily basis.

What I wish was different

It would of been nice if we could of done more tours of facilities to get a better understanding of the entire operations aspect of the company.

Advice

Take any internship you can find that is relevant to your skills, where you can gain experience. It will then be a launching for that company or another internship. I was lucky as a Sophomore to get this internship, now the possibilities are endless for my Junior year.

Sales and Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

I loved learning a lot about sales techniques and meeting new customers. I also really enjoyed all of my coworkers. It’s a friendly company.

What I wish was different

I had to do quite a bit of physical labor to lift 5 gallon pails of paint. I wasn’t really supposed to be doing that as an intern but I ended up doing the dirty work sometimes.

Advice

Talk to as many people as you can and relationship build from the second you get there.

Administrative Services Management Intern

June - August 2019 • York, PA

What I liked

I enjoyed that they did a project that was given to all of the interns. The fact that what we were actually working on could and was used by the actual company made it worthwhile to do.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would’ve been able to communicate and work with other interns more.

Advice

It was an amazing experience. Even though it showed me what I didn’t want for my future it was still a huge learning experience and I loved it.

June - August 2019 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

What i liked most about the internship was having the opportunity to ride along with sales reps and see their interactions with clients and also being able to host an event to receive honest feedback from our consumers and show our appreciation to them!

What I wish was different

I spent a majority of the time working in the store as a sales associate. I wish i would have been able to work more closely with the actual sales force and learn more about what goes on behind the scenes rather than just the daily in store operations.

Advice

One piece of advice that i can give after this internship is that hard work and dedication pays off and if you Never give up you will eventually succeed!
