Alabama Power Fleet Technical Services Summer Internship

Department Overview:

This position is for a summer internship within Fleet Technical Services located in Calera, AL (just south of Birmingham). We would be providing a housing allowance if the candidate lives outside of a commutable distance.

Our team is a support group within the Fleet Services Department at Alabama Power Company. Fleet Services has just over 200 employees (mostly technicians) responsible for maintaining just over 5400 pieces of equipment. The equipment they maintain ranges from mechanized trucks (bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, etc.) to trailers and light duty vehicles.

The Fleet Technical Services team consists of an engineering team and a maintenance team. We work closely together to provide safe, reliable equipment for our customers (primarily Generation, Distribution, and Transmission). We are responsible for the design, specifications and ordering mechanized equipment as well as providing technical information to our technicians as needed to support them with maintaining and troubleshooting this equipment.

The successful candidate for this position would have the opportunity to learn more about our department, our company, and some of our equipment. The candidate will get the opportunity to work on some projects with our engineering team and assist the maintenance team.

Job Summary

The intern will gain insight into the Fleet Technical Services Group through:

·        Working with engineers on special assigned projects

·        Potentially working with specialists on the maintenance team on special projects

·        Learning about various equipment specified and ordered for our customers

Overview will include information on the area’s function and current projects and initiatives.  Projects will be based on company need and the intern’s abilities.

Job Requirements

·        Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work

·        Ability to work effectively in a team environment

·        Strong analytical and clear communication skills

·        Ability to communicate well with supervision, peers, and customers

·        Enrolled to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical preferred)

·        Minimum GPA of 2.75 or higher (3.0 preferred)

·        Authorization to work in the United States now and in the future

Job Hours and Job Location

·        Summer 2018 Semester

·        40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

·        Calera, AL GSC,  opportunity for limited travel in Alabama
