Position Description

The STEM Education Coordinator Assistant will help in developing and leading the Gulf Coast Exploreum’s STEM programing. They will help the STEM Education Coordinator in providing direction to STEM based exhibits by researching, developing and implementing new programming and creating community awareness regarding the importance of STEM education.

 

 

Position Responsibilities

·        Reports to the STEM Education Coordinator.

·        Assist in the development and implementation of STEM educational programs that strengthen

  the vision and mission of the Exploreum.

·        Assist in the teaching of homeschool programming.

·        Responsible for ensuring that Scratch Factory exhibits and activities are properly maintained.

·        Travels to schools, institutions and any other educational outreaches.

·        Develops and performs hands-on science demonstrations on a daily basis and uses proper safety equipment during all demonstrations and programs.

·        Handles chemicals, organs, reptiles and occasionally other small animals, including but not limited to insects.

·        Works with other educators, volunteers, and department managers to ensure that guest have an engaging educational experience.

·        Greets and assists visitors, promotes Exploreum programs, events and memberships, etc.

·        Works special events, programs, workshops, festivals, camp-ins, camps and other Exploreum functions.

·        Uses reasoning to define problems, develop solutions, interpret instructions and evaluate information.

·        Engages visitors actively in the gallery exhibits while not in formal demonstrations.

·        Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Education.

·        Attends all staff meetings.

Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree preferred

·        Possesses excellent communication and public interaction skills

·        Ability to undertake and complete multiple tasks simultaneously

·        Must be enthusiastic, energetic, motivated and maintain a professional attitude and disposition.

·        Flexible, adaptable and able to learn quickly.

·        Dedicated work ethic and the ability to work as part of a team

·        Possess excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

·        Experience in computer programming, computer-aided design, and other applied sciences is highly preferred.
