Alabama Legislative Internship Program

The 2019 Legislative Internship Program runs from February 25 - June 17, 2019. These internships were established to involve student interns in the state legislature by allowing them to observe and participate in the legislative process of state government. All internships are located in the State House in Montgomery, Alabama, and students should be (1) juniors or higher in good standing and (2) either Alabama residents or attending an Alabama university. (December graduates are also welcome to apply).  These temporary positions are unpaid; however, most universities give college credit for this immersive experience with the state legislature. Interns work Monday - Thursday (8:00 - 4:30) in the State House and are assigned to several Senate offices or several House committees. They assist with constituent services, committee meetings, and observe the legislative process.  In addition, interns have meetings with many state department leaders throughout the internship. Applications can be obtained from the Legislative Services Agency's website: www.lsa.state.al.us and are due October 1, 2018. The deadline has been extended to January 30 due to the late state of the 2019 Legislative Session. This is a great opportunity for a December graduate.
