Supplier Quality Engineer

The Supplier Quality Engineer will continuously drive improvement on products and internal and supplier processes by developing quality systems, investigating new technology, performing audits, leading problem resolution and directing continuous improvement.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Make appropriate cross functional decisions using Quality analysis tools and critical thinking, including cost/impact analysis and customer impact.
  • Research and implement new gauging methods to drive receiving inspection improvements.
  • Utilize Quality data to prioritize issues to be addressed and lead cross functional team to establish true root cause and irreversible corrective actions.
  • Manage containment activities for non-conforming purchased product.
  • Manage Supplier corrective actions to ensure the root cause is being addressed in a timely manner.
  • Participate in New Product Launch activities, build receiving inspection plans and gauging, and train appropriate personnel.
  • Establish appropriate quality tracking mechanisms within the quality sector of operations area to drive improvement based on real-time data and provide monthly reporting to the business.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate controlled area for non-conforming material.
  • Quality systems, production process review and approval at various suppliers.
  • Daily production line support on making decisions related to product Quality: serving as the voice of the customer.
  • Review all gauging processes and equipment needs to prepare capital plan justifications along with training needs and execution of such equipment.
  • Lead and mentor the existing Quality associates supporting operations.
  • Represent operations relative to the change management process.  Attend change board and spec revision meetings and be the voice of operations.
  • Involved in safety, quality, cost, and delivery improvement initiatives.

Skills/Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or engineering technology program
  • Co-op or 1+ year of engineering experience with exposure to quality engineering
  • Proficiency in data collection and statistical analysis
  • Ability to effectively interface with manufacturing
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Manage and drive change
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of supplier quality engineering experience
  • Understanding of small engines
  • Knowledge of the AIAG PPAP standards
  • Proficiency in quality disciplines: ISO, TS16949, SPC, DOE
  • Lean knowledge
