Electrical Design Engineer - Communication Systems for Power Generation & Transmission System

Position Summary
Assists in the planning, design, construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of Corporate Energy's Telecommunications system, which include fiber optics, point-to-point microwave, land mobile radio, point-to-multipoint systems, as well as commercial wireless technologies supporting the power grid.
 
Essential Job Functions
  • Prepares or assists in directing the engineering design and planning of all Cooperative Energy telecommunication facilities.
  • Prepares cost estimates, schedules, specifications, and contract documents for construction or maintenance projects.
  • Prepares information on proposed projects for use in internal planning documents, as well as environmental and regulatory reports and hearings.
  • Reviews and evaluates bids to ensure that proposed construction or equipment meets requirements of the specifications and contract documents.
  • Provides technical assistance to Communications Systems technicians and others as required.
  • Supervises construction of facilities to ensure that equipment is installed in accordance with the specifications and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Performs a final inspection and verifies or develops as-built of all completed construction.
 
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering (ABET Accredited Institution) Or Related Field
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
 
Experience Requirements:
  • None Required

Position may be filled at entry level requiring no experience however candidates with greater experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for higher level engineering classification.
 
Certifications and Licensures:
  • Valid Mississippi Driver's License                      Required
  • PE License                                          Preferred
  • Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening.  Required
 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
  • Ability to develop basic knowledge of equipment selection and procurement methods associated with the design and construction of electric utility or telecommunication facilities.
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced calculations using given formulae and data and interpret the results against given standards.
  • Ability to understand and develop designs that meet all applicable code and standards requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret reports, plans, cost estimates, and alternatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision as well as within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • High level of initiative, effort and commitment toward completing assignments accurately and efficiently with attention to detail.
