Southern Company Environmental Affairs Intern

This position will be located in Birmingham, AL and a housing allowance will not be granted at this time. Please keep this in mind when applying.

We are looking for two interns for this summer to work in our Environmental Affairs (EA) group and they will support multi-media environmental reporting, permitting and policy activities.   
 
Job Responsibilities 
• Manage and create calculations and graphical depictions of environmental and financial data
• Create programming in Excel using VBA for environmental applications
• Provide technical writing for EA departments including, environmental reporting, permitting, and policy
• Engage in meetings and develop presentations to showcase environmental findings and statistical data
• Support other department activities including environmental reporting, strategy, and policy development 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
• Knowledge of federal/state environmental regulations for air, land and water media is helpful
• Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making abilities
• Ability to effectively communicate complex topics both orally and in writing 
• Demonstrate strong initiative and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate exceptional project management and organizational skills
• Knowledge of computer and software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Working knowledge of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), a plus
• Ability to think strategically and display customer focus
• Ability to work in a team environment with diverse disciplines and backgrounds

Position Requirements 
 
• Actively working toward a Bachelor’s degree required
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering or Environmental Science or related scientific field preferred  
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must not require the need for visa sponsorship now or in the future (must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident)
