BASF Technology Documentation Summer Intern '19

Description:
Organize, scan, and archive site Technology documentation. Documentation consists of hardcopy and electronic documents and reports. Documentation is located in multiple locations within the plant. Intern will need to be able to review items for relevance and duplicity, scan hardcopy documentation, sort electronic documentation, add metadata keywords for search functionality then organize all files electronically. Candidate will need to be able to read and understand chemical structures and IUPAC names to ensure all documentation is property organized. Computer skills will be important to this role. Skills related to database creation/management (MS Access) will be considered a strong plus. 
After documentation work is complete and as time permits, support plant-support chemists by assisting with lab work. Run familiarization batches of various products. Assist with current work stream by running reactions to complete targeted work.
Support other teams, projects as needed and requested.
Interpersonal skills will be important to this role. Candidate will need to be able to operate independently with minimal oversight and be willing to seek out resources as needed to keep work moving. 

Minimum requirements/Qualifications:
-Currently enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters level program (and graduating after August 2019)
-Demonstrated academic achievement (Minimum GPA 3.00)
-Minimum completed Sophomore year (rising Junior)
-Laboratory scale synthetic organic chemistry skills – minimum 2 years (4 semesters) of undergraduate chemistry including 1 year (2 semesters) Organic Chemistry with lab sections
-Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other majors with sufficient chemistry background will be considered (e.g. premed, biochemistry, biology, nursing ….)
-Knowledge of SQL, and database creation / management a strong plus (MS Access)
-High level of proficiency with MS Office products
-High level of proficiency with Adobe Acrobat
-High level of proficiency with computers
-Further lab skills considered a plus
-Must be able and willing to work in a lab, running lab reactions with oversight by plant-support chemists
-High executive function – must be able to operate and make decisions independently
-Ability to operate independently for extended periods of time
-Must be thorough and detail oriented
-Must have a strong sense of safety and be willing to support all safety requirements for the site
-Authorization to work in the US without restriction
