Laboratory Intern
A laboratory internship with Mobile Baykeeper provides a breadth of experience that can transfer to future environmental-related work opportunities. Interns will work in close direction and supervision of our Program Director. The Laboratory Intern will work primarily to process critical samples in the Baykeeper lab to inform investigations on pollution issues on local waterways. Interns with a background/interest in science and experience working in a lab setting are encouraged to apply. Interns will be expected to do the following:
Primary Duties
- Process bacteriological samples using an IDEXX system and other samples as necessary
- Assist with the expansion of the Baykeeper laboratory
- Assist in the creation of standard operating procedures
- Maintain chain of custody forms, inventory sheets, and other important paperwork
- Calibration of sampling equipment and maintenance of laboratory supplies
- Perform data entry and data management
Secondary Duties
- Assist in data analysis and synthesis
- Assist in program related activities
- Attend community outreach events
- Assist with fundraising events
- Provide general office assistance
